If you thought Montauk was only about water sports think again. One of the top public golf courses in the USA, the Montauk Downs, attracts golfers from around the country. We have two stables that offer horseback riding, public tennis courts, a skateboard park, and sponsor four triathlons each year.
For all sports, call for off-season availability.
MONTAUK DOWNS STATE PARK
Montauk Downs State Park is one of our town’s real sleepers; an 18-hole year-round public golf course named a Top 10 municipal course by Links Magazine in 2013! If that’s not enough, add a driving range, putting green, pro shop, private lessons and clinics for adults and kids, a grill room, swimming pool, kids wading pool, and tennis.
URBAN GOLF ACADEMY (Children’s Golf Instruction At The Montauk Downs)
Kate Tempesta’s Urban Golf Academy is a unique program that introduces children to the game of golf as early as age four. Kate Tempesta, Founder, Partner and President, is a member of the LPGA T&CP and the Director of the Junior Golf Program at Montauk Downs, and has been named one of the top golf teachers in New York State by Golf Digest in 2013.
UGA runs a day camp for junior golfers ages 4 and up from 9:15 am to 2:15 every day that includes golf, free swim and the option for tennis Mondays through Fridays. Create your own schedule. For golfers ages 8 and up, UGA runs an evening clinic on Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays where golfers will improve their skills in a clinic setting for one hour and then head to the course to use those skills.

Along the way you can take your bike to Camp Hero State Park where roads curve through wooded areas passing W.W. II buildings. Take a three mile detour to Montauk Harbor on West Lake Drive, an easy route with wide shoulders and no hills.
