Culloden, a popular Montauk dive spot less than two miles west of the Montauk jetties at Culloden Point, brings sightings of an English frigate that sank in 1871 just 150 feet off-shore. Access is through stairs at the end of Soundview Drive, which is also a great secluded place to watch the sunset.

sailingLake Montauk makes pleasant sailing for day sailors. Dinghies and larger boats will enjoy the offshore waters. East Hampton Town offers sailing lessons: two, two-week session. stand up paddle boardingPart sport, part transportation, and definitely good exercise, Stand Up Paddleboarding has exploded in popularity in the past few years. Everyone from ocean novices to legendary surfers are giving it a try. Paddle Boarding (or SUP’s) work everywhere, in the ocean, sound and even on the lakes.Our local sports shop, Air and Speed Surfshop, offes SUP rentals and sales, and can arrange for a lesson. For the novice, best places to start include the shallow waters of Southlake, the calm waters of Block Island Sound (like Fort Pond Bay), and also Fort Pond. Remember, everyone can do this sport, and it’s a great exercise.
